Derby triumph for Cambourne

claimed bragging rights in the Cornish derby against Launceston as they picked up their third win of the season, claiming a bonus point in the 32-10 success.

Tries from Ben Drew, Declan Prowse and Rob Gurnett saw them in control at 24-0 up at half-time. Launceston hit back with a penalty and James McFarlane’s try after the break, but there would be no comeback, Ben Priddey securing the bonus point win with Cambourne’s fourth try.

It was a good day for those at the bottom, with Drybrook also victorious, beating third bottom Oakhampton 45-17. Mitch Bourne scored a try in each half for Drybrook, who had only won one of their previous 11 games, with Dean Giles adding a second as they led 22-12 at half-time. Ben Large’s second half double sealed maximum points.

At the top, Hornets and Exeter University remain level on points after both recorded bonus-point wins, Hornets battling back from a 19-point deficit to beat Exmouth 31-26. Three tries saw Exmouth take control, but Hornets hit back with three scores before half-time, two conversion­s to one seeing Exmouth lead 19-17.

After a Hornets penalty, Exmouth’s bonus-point try saw them back ahead, but further penalty and a try proved decisive for Hornets.

It was a more comfortabl­e afternoon for Exeter students as they eased passed Ivybridge 46-24.

Brixham made it three wins in a row as they beat Old Centralian­s 3223, Ricky Workman with two tries, as they led 20-11 at half-time, with JP Simonetti, Matt Crosscombe and Karl Cain adding further scores.

Old Redcliffia­ns remain in third, seven points behind the leading duo, as they beat Bournemout­h 31-24 in a tight affair. The sides were level at 14-14 and 24-24 before a late try saw the visitors snatch victory. Weston-Super-Mare climbed to fourth with a 43-7 win over Royal Wootton Bassett.
