Sedbergh march on without losing a game

-

SEDBERGH’S U16s rounded off an unbeaten season with victory in the Colts competition, reaching the end of a stellar 7s campaign having beaten every team they came up against by 22 points or more.

Sedbergh scored at least five tries in every single game as they marched through the tournament, standing well clear as the best school of the 224 that participated and laying down a marker that they could come to dominate the senior competition in the next two years.

The same age group clinched the U14s tournament two years ago having to win some incredibly close games, but Sedbergh left no doubt about the outcome this time as they played some stunning rugby.

After winning their first two games 45-7 and 40-0 against Simon Langton Grammar and Royal Hospital School respectively, Sedbergh faced Hampton in a group decider where they were met with stern resistance – but came through 34-10.

They dismantled Langley Park School 52-0 in the Elimination Round to reach day two, where they eased through the second group stage with 56-5, 35-5 and 38-14 wins over Bristol Free School, QEGS Wakefield and Campion respectively.

Sedbergh set up their spot in the final by beating KCS Wimbledon 29-7 in the quarters and Epsom College 38-5 in the semis and even a brilliant Trinity side – who were also unbeaten up to that point – were no match in the final with the Cumbrian school winning 38-12.

Oakham finished their own superb 7s season, with 19 wins and just one defeat, as they won the plate final 20-0 against Stowe.
