Cottage Aid raises thousands for local good causes

-

A huge annual fundraiser in Hunmanby has once again raised thousands of pounds for good causes. Cottage Aid, which has taken place at The Cottage pub for the past 10 years, was held last month and raised a whopping £6,300. The event featured seven live bands, a bouncy castle, tombola, raffle, kids’ rides, food vans, people dressed as Star Wars characters and two fly pasts, one by a Condor and one by a Chipmunk. Linda Pickard, who organises Cottage Aid with landlord and landlady Dave and Anne Wells, said: “It was just magic. It was a brilliant day and I’ve never seen it so busy. “People were so generous in making donations – we couldn’t have asked for better. It didn’t matter that it chucked it down later on!” Linda thanked everyone involved, in particular the Benidorm Bangers. The NSPCC has received £5,700 from the event, which includes £1,000 in match funding by Barclays. The remainder was shared between Scarborough Hospital’s Duke of Kent ward, on behalf of Harry Mander, and a fund to take Hunmanby pensioners for a day out in Whitby. Plans are already being put in place for next year’s event. Pictured are Linda Pickard, Jo Dale, Dave and Anne Wells and Carole Wilson.
