Cloughton set for final tie with Ravenscar
The final of the Lloyd Dowson Cricket Cup takes place on Tuesday July 26 at Flixton, 6pm start.
This cup competition is for Division C teams in the “Andy Hire” Scarborough Evening Cricket League.
This is the first year of this competition, having previously been the McCain Cricket Cup for a number of years but this year Lloyd Dowson (Chartered Accountants, Tax and Business Advisors), kindly stepped in and agreed to sponsor the competition and have generously provided a magnificent new winner’s cup as well as a runners-up shield, which the league are extremely grateful for.
The final looks likely to be a close contest between two teams currently in the top half of the Division C of the league, namely Cloughton B and Ravenscar.
Cloughton B have a strong looking team and will be looking for runs from Liam Salt and Joel Ramm and towards bowlers Craig Lyon and Luke Atkinson for wickets, with both runs and wickets from the prolific all-rounder and current league top scorer Sean Exley.
Cloughton B reached the final after beating Wykeham C in the second Round, having received a bye in the first round, and Forge Valley in the semi.
Ravenscar also have a strong team with all rounders Will Warwick and Robin Coulson, batsmen Tom Noble, Joe Bayes, Adam Graham and Ivan Kirk, as well as bowler and captain Freddie Barker.
Ravenscar reached the final after beating Valley Bar Nomads in the second round having also received a bye in the first round, and Staxton B in the semi-final.
In the one league encounter between the two teams back in mid-June, Cloughton B beat Ravenscar by a comfortable margin of 53 runs.
Entrance to the game is free but a raffle will be held in aid of league funds. Umpires are Steve Dodds and Michael O’Brien.
The trophies will be presented by David Dowson, founder and owner of Lloyd Dowson, and the company’s marketing manager Vanessa Rowbottom.
