Norman the all-round hero as Wykeham secure title success
Wykeham under-16s wona thrilling game against Driffield on Sunday to secure the Greenwood Hire Derwent Valley Junior League title. The villagers batted first and Ben Norman’s 30 retired was the only innings of note as they were dismissed for 67, Ben Nellist bagging 4-12 for Driffield.
Norman then snapped up 2-13 to cap a fine all-round display, Max Lane taking 3-13 and Lewis Eustace 2-8 as Driffield were dismissed for 60, Robbie Milner top-scoring with 30.
Flixton eased to an eightwicket win against Pickering.
Ben Chamberlain scooped 3-8 and Reece Wilson 2-18 as the Pikes were pegged back to 86-8, Max Harland hitting 30 and I Shepherd 31.
Fine knocks from Elliot Hatton, 32, and Fin Ward, 26no, wrapped up the win. Scarborough hammered Duncombe Park by 75 runs, Charlie Hopper taking a superb 5-16 for the victors.
Kieron Rutter and Hopper both hit 23 and Arthur Aston a cracking 30 as the North Marine Road club posted 129-6, Edward Crusher taking 3-19.
Tom Fairburn’s 20 was the only knock of note as the Helmsley side slipped to 54 all out in the face of fine Hopper bowling.
Driffield and Pickering’s under-11s and under-13 sides have claimed their respective Zone titles.
This means that Driff and the Pikes will lock horns in the play-off finals, the under-11s sides meet tomorrow at Forge Valley and the under-13s at Ebberston on Monday, both games start at 6pm. Driffield under-13s wrapped up their Zone One success with a six-wicket success against Sewerby.
Dan Artley retired on 25 and Isaac Coates on 28 as Sewerby posted 93-3.
Harvey Wilkes’ 26 retired, along with unbeaten 21s from Josh Walker and M Anderson, saw Driffield home, Josh Garbutt taking 2-17.
Pickering sealed their Zone Two success with an eight-wicket win against Wykeham.
Max Harland took 3-8 and Harry Edwards 2-12 as Wykeham limped to 46-7.
Harland’s 25 retired saw the Pikes to victory. Driffield under-11s ended their Zone One campaign with a 63-run defeat at the hands of
Scarborough, but they had already wrapped up the title.
Isaac Grunwell scored 16 not out as Scarborough made 317-2, while Driffield were limited to 254-9 thanks to a cracking 3-7 by Ben Robson.
Zone Two champions Pickering completed their league campaign with a seven-wicket success against Mulgrave. Joe Barker snapped up 4-4 and Morgan Elven 3-2 as Mulgrave were dismissed for 213, Johnny Hare top-scoring with 19 for the Whitby side.
Callum Pepper’s 28, allied to 16 from Ryan Vance, helped Pickering to victory, R Hoggarth snapping up 2-5.
