No sense in closing vital health facility

-

I am writing to say how very sad I am to hear about the mental health resource unit at 2 Trafalgar Square is said to be closing down in October. I just can’t believe that such a vital and very needed place could possibly think of closing down. This place is very much used and needs encouraging to keep its doors open. There are people in bad need of such a place to go, some of these ill people have no family or friends around other than the friends they meet up with in such places, a lot of them need such a place to turn to for help.

People with mental health issues are very lonely people and need to go to see people who care for them, help them and support them. To close this place down just does not make any sense whatsoever. There is a lot of talk these days of more and more mental illness and talk about helping them more. So, is this a good way to help them? I would say not.

To me whose idea of closing such a needed place as this in Trafalgar Square have no thought or understanding of mental illness. I know money is a problem these days, but what’s money compared to life?

I seriously would advise to think again about what you are doing to these unfortunate people and please keep the doors open. Mrs J Thornton Church Street, Whitby
