Watson leads the way at Brompton
Tuesday evening saw Scarborough Paragon Cycling club hold its 10-mile timetrial at Brompton. The field of 15 riders saw decent evening temperatures and light winds. Nev Watson was the first rider back with a course personal best of 22 minutes 47seconds, an impressive time considering that he mixes his cycle training in with a lot of running. The next Paragon rider in was Simon Ward, who, after returning from holiday, rode to a great time of 23 minutes 29 seconds. Third club member back was Kevin Allen in 23 minutes 43 seconds. Paragon rider Rob Grainger was held up by a JCB on the way to Seamer, which effectively spoilt his chances of riding the course, so he decided to turn off and climb up by Wykeham to do some extra miles. The remaining times were as follows: Daryl Maffey (YHT) 23.04 course PB, J Gallaway (Keswick Bikes) 23:28, C Brown 24:14, Rob Corney 24: 19, S Walker (YHT) 24:44, B Sixsmith (YHT) 25:12, R Stephenson 25:22, M Potter 25:34, B Cappleman 25:42, P Warters 25:50, J Morrison 28:24. On Saturday, Paragon are hosting their open 10-mile time-trial at Burton Fleming. This is a pre-entry event and entries include former Paragon rider and now professional, James Gullen, of the Pedal Heaven Cycle Team. Gullen is looking at beating the course record which has now stood for several years. The field is also set to feature a number of sub 20-minute riders,so the event should be extremely competitive.
