Library services

-

At a recent meeting the trustees of Newby and Scalby Library, who take over running the library services from the county council in April 2017, were delighted to receive the news of fantastic support from the parish councils of Burniston, Cloughton, Hackness and Harwood Dale and Staintondale.

In recognition of the valuable services which the library provides to people who live in their parishes, as well as to the wider community, they have agreed to provide funding for three years, from 20172020. This amounts to £750pa from Burniston, £500pa from Cloughton, £500pa from Hackness and Harwood Dale and £250pa from Staintondale.

Newby and Scalby Parish Council have agreed in principle to take over running the library premises in April 2017, and the trustees warmly welcomed the significant support of all the parish councils, which will enable them to continue to offer the library services and prevent its closure. They have recruited over 40 library volunteers, who will receive training from the county council in the New Year, and will be holding events in the autumn to recruit further volunteers since they estimate that they will need over 60 volunteers to maintain current opening hours, which they aim to increase if possible.
