Youths in water bill doorstep scam

-

Filey Police are looking into a number of incidents where people have been asked for money on their doorstep for a non-existent unpaid water bill.

The police posted about the incidents on Facebook, saying: “Attention local residents, but Filey in particular.

“Please be aware unknown persons have attended addresses in and around the Welford Road area wearing G4S T-shirts and hard hats asking for money owed for a water bill.

“We don’t believe these to be malicious and simply acting in a moronic and childish way. If you or know of anyone having similar issues please contact us. Thank you.”

They have since updated the post, stating: “After conducting house-to-house enquiries it seems a group of youths have attended two or three houses in the above area wearing what was described as Bob the Builder toy hard hats.

“It is against the law to obtain money by deception but no money was exchanged thankfully. Enquiries are ongoing.”
