New all-weather tennis courts get ready to see match point

-

Filey is set to benefit from three brand new all-weather tennis courts, which have been developed to the latest Lawn Tennis Association standards and will be floodlit to allow extended hours of play. The new courts on Southdene in Filey replace previous ageing courts situated on the same site. They have been developed, alongside a new pavilion facility, by Thompson Homes, in advance of its construction of a new housing development on neighbouring land. The new facilities represent an investment of £186,000. Scarborough Council, which owns the land, is to lease two of the courts and the pavilion to Filey Tennis Club for its exclusive use. The third court will remain open for the general public. The new courts were formally pre- sented to Filey Tennis Club by the Mayor of the Borough of Scarborough, Cllr Simon Green, on Tuesday. David Hudghton, chairman of Filey Tennis Club said: “I would like to thank the council for its input and Thompson Homes for providing this wonderful amenity. We look forward to welcoming both old and new members.” Pictured, centre, are David Hudghton, Cllr Derek Bastman, Brian Thompsonand Nick Brazier with Bethany Thompson and Filey Mayor Susan Bosomworth 164106
