New owners look to restore pub back to its traditional roots
A Hunmanby pub is returning to traditional values in order to restore the building’s character. Owner of the White Swan, David Fielder, purchased the pub in March this year following a three-year campaign to save the community ale house from falling into the hands of a developer. Since the takeover, the plan of restoring the 18th century building is coming to fruition with a new handpainted sign the latest development which has been unveiled to customers. Manager Andrew Bowles said: “It is great that the White Swan is once again a free house.
“We now have two renovated bars, a dining room, a function room and beer garden to ensure the long term viability of the pub.” The Save our Swan group, which won a public inquiry to stop the building becoming, amongst other things, new homes, has now been renamed the Friends of the White Swan which now raises money for local charities by hosting events in the free house.
Andrew said: “We have been able to reduce the prices and we hope the work will make sure the pub remains open for many years to come. “We welcome anyone to come down and see the new changes.”
