Nothing peaceful about this protest

In Lancashire, Cuadrilla has commenced construction of a well pad for shale gas exploration.

The anti-fracking protesters are targeting the business premises of local companies operating in the supply chain. The protesters failed to win their case against shale gas through official channels.

One company stated: ‘As you are aware the protesters have now moved to block our St Anne’s Depot, we have been unable to move raw materials in and concrete out to any of our customers this morning. I understand that this blockade will continue whilst we are supplying your contract at Preston New Road. In view of the drastic effect this is now having on the rest of my customers, we have no alternative but to cease supplies to the above site’.

Is this the kind of country and economic environment we wish to live and work in? Companies should not have to concede to a few activists whilst going about their lawful business.

How peaceful is a protest when a company is driven to surrender its business contracts? Yorkshire companies need to show more grit once operations start over here.
