War evacuee’s search for information

-

I am hoping for some help. In 1942-43 I was a war evacuee in Scarborough. I am writing my memoirs and would like some information or photographs of that time. Can any of your readers help with this?

We arrived on the train from London (three girls aged five, eight and 11) and were taken to a church where we spent the night. The next day the locals came to choose those they would like to look after. We three were taken in by the Priestley family who lived over the road on the corner on the same side. It was a large bay fronted Edwardian house with side garden entrance opposite the church.

I returned 25 years ago and found the church was demolished and behind hoardings. The house was then occupied by insurance company offices. Unfortunately, I have lost the photographs and address from that time. Looking on Google Street View I cannot recognise the area.

I now visit school children who are studying that era to share my experiences of the war, and would be truly grateful if anyone has any information relating to that time. I can be contacted at Bramble Cottage, Pyes Lane, Castle Acre (near King’s Lynn), Norfolk PE32 2XB. Mrs Carol Read (nee Frost) Pyes Lane, Castle Acre
