Praise for the bor­ough’s Street An­gels

A civic re­cep­tion was held to hon­our Scar­bor­ough and Whitby’s Street An­gels. Po­lice in­spec­tor Graeme Kyn­man and Jo Ire­land from Scar­bor­ough Coun­cil thanked the Street An­gels, and Mayor Cllr Si­mon Green wel­comed eight new re­cruits and their lead­ers Pas­tor Paul Abell and Brian Ward.

The Street An­gels were launched in Fe­bru­ary 2009 in Scar­bor­ough and July 2012 in Whitby. Street An­gels arev­ol­un­teers who im­prove the safety of those who use bars, restau­rants, cin­e­mas and pub­lic trans­port dur­ing busy pe­ri­ods, of­fer­ing a calm­ing in­flu­ence in the night time econ­omy ar­eas. The Street An­gels build up re­la­tion­ships with the pub­lic and if they iden­tify some­one in dif­fi­culty they of­fer as­sis­tance, call­ing on the ap­pro­pri­ate ser­vices for help if needed.
