Thinking Day

-

The February meeting was held at St John’s Church on Monday and 22 members attended. Committee reports were discussed and passed.

The main celebration of the meeting was Thinking Day. This a day that brings together all Guides, Brownies and Rainbows, including the Boy Scouting organisations, across the world on one day of the year when we send our best wishes and thought to each other. The date was chosen as it was the joint birthdays of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell.

This year we had a map of Europe and members placed small flags on each country where guiding and scouting were celebrated, then read out interesting facts on each country. We also celebrated with three new members making their promise and receiving their badges.

The chairman reported that a cheque for £150 had been sent to Dial-a Ride, a share of the money raised at our last coffee morning, and a letter of thanks has been received. The rest of the meeting had members making paper and clove hearts (to varying degrees of success) but many thanks to Mrs D Tonks and Mrs R Moorhouse for their patience and expert help. Tea and biscuits were served by Mrs R Dykes and Ms C Hagan and the meeting closed with the singing of Afternoon Taps.
