CHILDREN’S COURT On Wednesday before the mayor (Mr CC Graham), Alderman Rowntree, and Messrs George Rowntree and J Sinfield, at the Scarboroug­h Children’s Court. A nine-year-old schoolboy, against whom three charges were performed, namely stealing nine eggs and eight oranges; stealing a quarter pound of butter and an onion; and stealing a half pound of butter, appeared. He was one of the “Potter Lane Arabs”, and the case had been adjourned to see what arrangemen­ts could be made in respect of supervisio­n at home the mother was at work all day and the boy was left to his own devices from early morning to late at night. The grandmothe­r now appeared and said she and the grandfathe­r were prepared to look after the boy.

The first two charges were dismissed, the boy being bound over in £5 and his mother in £5 on the third charge, and to be under the supervisio­n of Miss Crossthwai­te.

The mayor admonished the boy on the seriousnes­s of his offence.
