CHILDREN’S COURT On Wednesday before the mayor (Mr CC Graham), Alderman Rowntree, and Messrs George Rowntree and J Sinfield, at the Scarborough Children’s Court. A nine-year-old schoolboy, against whom three charges were performed, namely stealing nine eggs and eight oranges; stealing a quarter pound of butter and an onion; and stealing a half pound of butter, appeared. He was one of the “Potter Lane Arabs”, and the case had been adjourned to see what arrangements could be made in respect of supervision at home the mother was at work all day and the boy was left to his own devices from early morning to late at night. The grandmother now appeared and said she and the grandfather were prepared to look after the boy.
The first two charges were dismissed, the boy being bound over in £5 and his mother in £5 on the third charge, and to be under the supervision of Miss Crossthwaite.
The mayor admonished the boy on the seriousness of his offence.
