Bennett and Kirby shine at South Cliff

-

The East Riding Alliance teed off at South Cliff with a rearranged fixture from last week due to it being cancelled after excessive rain.

Second time around the weather was fine and sunny for all the players.

Very quick out of the starting blocks were local pair Steve Bennett [5] and Pete Kirby [13] from Scarborough North Cliff, who came in with a great score of 62.

This was clearly going to take some beating.

Throughout the day there were numerous 65s and a 64 from Steve Uzzel and Nathan Wright from Hornsea Golf Club.

This was the nearest that anybody got to the pairing from the North Cliff.

In the team championship Hainsworth made some good ground, while Heworth dropped off the pace, leaving Hessle and Hornsea split again by one shot.

The Scarborough & District Alliance made its way to Malton & Norton GC on Saturday.

The week before this fixture was postponed due to a bad weather forecast, however this weekends the weather was sublime nice and sunny with a slight wind.

The Welham course is always a test for golfers with its length and tricky pin positions.

However, on the day it was North Cliff ’s consistent play that increased their lead in the Pennant Trophy to 11 shots over South Cliff.

Filey didn’t fare too well either on the day as they lost 10 shots to North Cliff.

The pair to take the tankards were the first pairing from Malton M Snowdon and I Johnson, who shot a very creditable seven-under 65.

Second home were A Wiggins and C Pennock of Whitby with 67 and third were R Cass and R White from Kirkbymoorside 67 .

Fourth were S Bennett and Kirby of North Cliff, fifth F raser Kelley (pictured above) and D Raybould also of North Cliff, 67.

South Cliff ’s P Johnson and N Middleton came sixth and D Tate and D Walker of Bridlington Links were in seventh with 67.

The Alliance now moves onto Bridlington Links next Saturday which will be the first time for them hosting the Alliance.
