Hull Uni commits to town
The University of Hull is launching a new Scarborough-based team to build on its relationships with schools, businesses and the wider community.
The final group of degree students will graduate this year at the Filey Road campus, before the site is taken over Scarborough TEC (formerly Yorkshire Coast College).
Drawing on the university’s local links and expertise, the team will initially be located at what will become Scarborough TEC from September, following the change in ownership from the University to Grimsby Institute Group.
The university will also be validating degree courses being offered by the new Scarborough TEC at the Filey Road campus.
Professor Glenn Burgess, Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hull, said: “This new team underlines the university’s continuing commitment to supporting the educational and business aspirations of Scarborough and North Yorkshire.
“We have played a key role in this region for many years.
“Recent examples include working with Scarborough Council on the re-development of the Market Hall, helping to recruit and train more than 100 volunteers to work on a coastal conservation project, and also our major role in the Scarborough UTC (the University Technical College based at Weaponness).” North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a dog attacked a sheep, causing injury, in the area of Falling Foss, between Scarborough and Whitby on Saturday 18 March between 3.30pm and 4.15pm. Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting reference 12170045878.
