Rocket task for students

-

More than 50 students from local schools, along with apprentices from Derwent Training Centre, took part in the 10th Scarborough Rotary Young Technician Tournament.

The event was held at Scarborough Rugby Club last Wednesday with the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Barry Dodd CBE, in attendance.

Mr Dodd praised the ‘dedication of the students in their application to the task and their obvious enjoyment in meeting the challenge’.

The task was to build a miniature space rocket.

The craft had to be launched to a height of three metres before descending by parachute back down to Earth.

Scarborough College B team won the Foundation Trophy, Scarborough UTC B team the Intermediate Trophy, and Yorkshire Coast College B team the Advanced Trophy.

Scarborough UTC B team were the winners of the Paul Curry Trophy for best overall performance.
