Competition winner
The Scarborough Writers’ Circle holds an annual short story competition for the Arthur Hastings Cup. Members must base their story on an actual event - either one from the news or their own lives.
This year’s judge was circle member Wanda Maciusko and in her initial feedback she was very complimentary about the high standard of the writing (members must submit their story under a pseudonym, so that not until the awards night is the author’s real name known).
This year’s winner was the chairperson, Dorinda Cass, with her brilliant story set in Sicily and the art world. ‘Echoes in Time’, set a century ago, was the story of a son’s unwitting betrayal in love by the actions of his thoughtless mother. For many members this was their first competition entry.
On April 11 at The Mount, Alan Combes will present an interactive session about writing style which will be based on the wise words of novelist Stephen King.
