Northern Broadsides joins forces with the award-winning New Vic Theatre, Newcastle-under-Lyme, to visit the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarboroug­h, with Cyrano, a new adaptation by awardwinni­ng playwright Deborah McAndrew of Edmond Rostand’s classic romantic comedy Cyrano de Bergerac.

Directed by Northern Broadsides resident director Conrad Nelson, the show can be seen from Tuesday April 4 to Saturday April 8.

Brilliant poet and dashing musketeer Cyrano is deeply in love with the beautiful Roxane.

Afraid of revealing his feelings (for who could love a man with such an enormous nose?) he woos her from afar with heartfelt declaratio­ns of love, delivered to her from the mouth of the handsome Christian.

Set in the golden age of musketeers, Deborah McAndrew’s lively new adaptation brings fresh vigour to this swashbuckl­ing tale of unrequited love. A

Director Conrad Nelson is renowned for his bold approach to comedy, eliciting exquisite performanc­es from the cast and bringing freshness, immediacy and vitality to classic texts that is unparallel­ed, resulting in highly accessible production­s.

He said: “This adaptation embraces the poeticism of Rostand’s drama.

“Debbie McAndrew has created a carefully crafted version that marries the energy and vibrancy of youth with the romance and classicism of the original.”

The cast of Cyrano is: Angela Bain, Adam Barlow, Paul Barnhill, Andy Cryer, Jessica Dyas, Christian Edwards, Michael Hugo, Anthony Hunt, Francesca Mills, Perry Moore, Sharon Singh, Robert Wade and Andrew Whitehead.

It can be seen at the Stephen Joseph Theatre at 7.30pm on Tuesday April 4, 5 and 7; at 1.30pm and 7pm on Thursday April 6; and at 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Saturday April 8.
