It’s election time and the A64 bottlenecks are on the agenda again. But it will be years (possibly six) before the Hopgrove roundabout and the grass verges are re-constructed to allow for better traffic flows. The queues were there last weekend again of course as people headed back to West Yorkshire on Sunday early evening, all wondering why such an important road was still mostly single-carriageway. ... between Scarborough centre and the Leeds A1M junction there is 30 miles of single carriageway in total and 28 dual carriageway. From Scarborough centre to Malton bypass is 22 (yes 22) miles of single lane. Malton bypass offers five miles of dual but to Welburn/ Castle Howard it is single for three miles; three miles dual to near the Jinnah but then six miles single to the Hopgrove roundabout before 20 miles dual to the Leeds A1M junction.
