Now in its 19th year Scarborough’s Seafest is growing in stature.
Thousands of people attended the three-day event on Scarborough’s West Pier, which included music, games and cooking demonstrations from chefs such as Rob Green, Stephanie Moon, Martyn Hyde of Eat Me Cafe, and Luke Daniels, of the Weston Hotel, Scarborough.
Cllr Janet Jefferson, one of the main organisers, said: “It was a fantastic event and it gets better with every year.
“We got lots of great feedback on the cooking demonstrations and the stallholders said it was very busy. Planning now has to start for our 20th anniversary Seafest.”
Also over the weekend, the lifeboat’s annual flag day on Saturday was followed by an open day on Sunday. At the latest count, £3,179 was donated.
On Saturday, the two lifeboats and the coastguards’ search-and-rescue helicopter took part in a joint exercise in the South Bay which was also treated to a Lancaster bomber flypast three times.
The lifeboats had a shout during the exercise and had to be diverted. A small leisure craft with engine failure was drifting in the zone assigned for the exercise.
The boat, with a crew of three, was towed back to the harbour.
On Sunday, the lifeboats were moved onto the slipway so the Seafest church service could be held in the boat hall. The service was conducted by St Mary’s Church curate Tina Minett-Stevens.
