Dad’s London to Paris fundraising challenge

-

The father of a 17-year-old Scarborough girl with a rare connective tissue disorder has cycled from London to Paris to raise funds for the charity that supported them.

Evie Stanway suffers from Ehlers–Danlos syndrome which in recent years had worsened and she has spent months in hospital.

She is now fed through a tube in to her stomach and has problems with her heart.

Evie’s family has received significant support from Ehlers-Danlos Support UK, and dad Douglas Stanway, 50, decided to take on the gruelling cycling challenge to give something back.

The four-day route took Douglas from London to Paris, cycling more than 100 miles a day. More than £4,000 has been donated already including a £1,000 from Scarorough’s TK Maxx store.

Evie said: “I do feel really proud of him. It’s nice that he can say thank you in this way for everything that they have done for us.

“The charity isn’t that well known. The funds raised will be going towards care and management to try and help everybody with the condition but it will also go towards research for treatment.”
