Thanks and remember our name

- Joe Bookbinder Campaigner Marie Curie

I would like to thank you and everyone at The Scarborough News for covering Marie Curie recently – we really appreciate it and every article helps us in our mission to help care and support people living with a terminal illness and their families.

I noticed that your article referred to us as “Marie Curie Cancer Care” and would like to highlight that we are now called “Marie Curie”.

In April 2015, we changed our name to explain more clearly what we do and who we care for – providing care to people living with any terminal illness, not just terminal cancer.

Marie Curie has provided care to people with any terminal illness, including cancer, for many years, yet evidence shows that, in general, someone with a non-cancer terminal diagnosis is less likely to get the care and support they need.

That’s why we are keen to ensure more people are aware that we provide services for people with any terminal illness, including those with dementia, heart and lung disease, and motor neurone disease. We do this through our nursing service, our nine hospices across the UK and through our information and support service.

Thank you very much for your understanding and cooperation.
