Minis return with a bang
The Scarborough mini and juniors rugby season is back underway after a few weeks off over the festive period.
The minis started back with all age groups sending at least one team to Hornsea for a matrix.
All our Scarborough sides played really well, it was hard to notice they hadn’t played or trained in almost a month.
The Under-12s had games against Hornsea, Hullensians and Driffield.
For the first fixture of 2018 Scarborough turned out a squad of 20 players supported by four coaches, showing ongoing commitment in depth at the age group.
Further to taking part in three hard-fought matches, support was offered to Dr if field, who were short of players.
The three games were played in great spirit and were extremelycompetitive setting 2018 off on a great note.
Scarborough Under-Eights arrived early for a good warm up session to burn off the Christmas chocolate.
Competing against two sides from Driffield and one from Hornsea, they displayed their best handling of the season.
With the ground saturated and easily cutting up, the rugby ball became very slippery and hard to handle.
With both Driffield teams employing hard running lines, and Hornsea relying on pacy wingers, Scarborough took a different approach and relied on their passing, catching and support skills which had been a focus of skill improvement.
The highlight of the day was easily a slick passing movement going through each player’s hands for Oscar Tomlinson to score in the corner.
It was a great effort by the Under-Eight sin difficult conditions, especially considering the Christmas break and no training for almost a month.
Player of the day was Kacie Sharp who put in 100% all day in the difficult conditions and managed to pull off some great tags against some very quick Hornsea players.
This Sunday will see the junior boys and girls starting the secon half of the season off and then the following Sunday will see the rest get stuck into it.
This Sunday the minis are travelling away to Bridlington to continue a great start to 2018 with a train and play day.
Our junior girls travel to Selby for games against them and some junior boys sides travelling away for some long a waited fixtures.
