Carr drives on in Hardmoors event

-

Nikki Carr competed in the special Hardmoors Trail race that was organised as a fund raising event for Cancer Research, after a Hardmoors runner had been diagnosed with bowel cancer shortly after her 30th birthday.

The event successfully raised over £2,000 for the charity.

The main race was over 11 miles starting at Lord Stone Country Park, and consisted of some challenging ascents towards Chop Gate and the Carlton Bank Trig Point before the final decent back to the Country Park.

Carr completed this tough course in eighth overall and was the first woman finisher.

The event included a 1.5-mile race for children in which Carr’s four children all took part.

This race consisted of a straight ascent and decent of Cringle Bank Moor, which is a serious climb for any age of runner.

Eight-year-old Emma finished in fourth overall and headed her nine-yearold brother Harry, who ran with a broken foot in a plaster cast.

Alfie, five, and four-yearold Florence also completed the race.

Three members competed in the 26th staging of the classic Hanging Stone Leap events which are organised by the Cleveland Long Distance Walking Association.

Both the long event of 24 miles and the short event of 13 miles started at the Guisborough Rugby Club.

The event takes in some challenging climbs which include High Cliff Nab, Captain Cook’s monument and The Hanging Stone.

In the short event Danny Walls was fourth overall of 70 finishers in 1 hour 47 minutes, and Dave Parke was 17th in 2 hours 30 minutes and bettered his 2013 time by 29 minutes.

The club’s ultra specialist Carr competed in the long event and on what was a hot day was 32nd overall of 115 finishers and ninth woman in 4 hours 39 minutes.
