Scarboroug­h and District Horticultu­ral Associatio­n held its 130th annual open show in Crossgates Community Centre over the weekend, proving a great success with most sections very well supported and a good attendance throughout the weekend.

The vegetable section was, as usual, of the highest quality, all in all, an excellent show with numbers much better than first expected.

Potter Trophy for highest number of points in the show - K Chambers; Rushforth Cup for best bowl of roses in class 34, and the BGS Rosette for best exhibit in gladioli classes - Joan Abel; Eleanor Smart Cup for most points in gladioli classes - Joan Abel and A Agustyne (joint); WM Broady Silver Cup for best exhibit of vegetables, class 26 - K Abel; Bert Weale Memorial Trophy for best exhibit of one flower, one vegetable, Jim Bean Memorial Trophy for the best onion exhibit in classes 1, 2, 3 and 25 - RB Potter; Sweet Pea Cup for best exhibit of sweet peas, and President’s Prize awarded at president’s discretion J Boyes; NVS Medal for best vegetable exhibit in show P Francis; Gertrude Smith Cup for best exhibit in class 39 - J Stone; Coronation Cup for best exhibit of flowers in classes 28-56, Dodd Memorial Cup for best exhibit of roses in class 34 - Mrs F Showers; John Showers Cup for best exhibit in pot plant classes - P Bendall; Cacti and Succulent Trophy for best exhibit in cacti and succulent class 71-74 - D Flower; BFS Fuchsia Rosette for best exhibit in fuchsia classes - R Parker.

The show was held under the presidency of Ken Dale with an efficient committee and secretary, Gordon Shepherd.

Judges were: Flowers, Pot Plants and Cacti - Mr J Feathersto­ne, Vegetables and Fruit Mr D Peel FNVS.

The next show, organised by the associatio­n, is the early chrysanthe­mum and dahlia show and will take place in Crossgates Community Centre on September 12 and 13.
