Artist entertains

The monthly meeting of the Heart to Heart, Scarborough Cardiac Support Group, was held in the Scout Hall, Mount View Avenue, on Tuesday August 4.

Guest speaker, artist and caricaturist Anne PilgrimGreen entertained the group with examples of her work, much of which featured horses as the subjects of a variety of cartoons, magazine illustrations and poetical verses. Members were invited to try to copy a sketch of a horse’s head which she produced – results were of mixed variety.

The weekly exercise class has been cancelled for the summer, and will re-commence at the Scout Hall on Thursday September 17 with cardiovascular exercises with Kadie.

The group ran a tombola at the community fair in the main street last Saturday to raise funds for the cardiac departments at Scarborough Hospital.

At the meeting ‘honorary membership’ was offered to Clare Valentine, who was responsible (together with our treasurer) for the formation of this Heart to Heart group some 24 years ago. She has since helped many of our members in her capacity of cardiac rehabilitation specialist nurse.

Clare was presented with a bouquet and voucher in recognition of her help, as she leaves to take a part-time position at a local GP practice.

The next meeting on September 1 will be back at the hospital’s postgraduate centre, with tea or coffee at 7pm before the meeting commences at 7.30pm.
