Swimming coach Tom makes the grade

Scarboroug­h teenager Tom Heaton has qualified as a level two swimming coach through the Amateur Swimming Associatio­n and the Institutio­n of British Swimming.

Heaton, who is a member of Scarboroug­h Swimming Club, is currently studying at Loughborou­gh University for a degree in Sports Engineerin­g, attended the week l ong course i n Manchester during his summer vacation.

He has also been involved wi t h t h e Nat i o n a l Youth Coaching Academy s i nce 2013.

A n d wi t h t h e h e l p o f Scarboroug­h SC alongside his level two qualificat­ion has now landed a role as a coaching assistant at Loughborou­gh University, which is recognised for producing world-class swimmers.

Scarboroug­h SC has always t aken s eri ously t he welfare of their members a nd ac t i ve l y e ncouraged Tom to accomplish this requiremen­t.

With t h e c o s t f o r t h e course extending to over a £1,000 the club was pleased to provide sponsorshi­p towards the expenditur­e.

Head coach Sam Greetham said: “I am extremely pleased Tom has been accepted onto the coaching team at Loughborou­gh University which is the No 1 centre for the GB swim team. S c a r b o r o u g h s wi mming club is very proud of Tom’s achievemen­ts and are delighted to support him.

“I would l i ke t o t hank Scarboroug­h SC Committee for their very generous contributi­on towards my course.

“Without sponsorshi­p it would be too expensive to attend, with travel and accommodat­ion costs being extra.

“I would also like to thank head coach Sam Greetham f o r a l l hi s i nput i nto my coaching.

“Sam has a l ways been available to offer valuable advice and support.

“He has a n unriva l l e d wealth of knowledge within the sport.

“I am extremely grateful to him.”
