Swimming coach Tom makes the grade
Scarborough teenager Tom Heaton has qualified as a level two swimming coach through the Amateur Swimming Association and the Institution of British Swimming.
Heaton, who is a member of Scarborough Swimming Club, is currently studying at Loughborough University for a degree in Sports Engineering, attended the week l ong course i n Manchester during his summer vacation.
He has also been involved wi t h t h e Nat i o n a l Youth Coaching Academy s i nce 2013.
A n d wi t h t h e h e l p o f Scarborough SC alongside his level two qualification has now landed a role as a coaching assistant at Loughborough University, which is recognised for producing world-class swimmers.
Scarborough SC has always t aken s eri ously t he welfare of their members a nd ac t i ve l y e ncouraged Tom to accomplish this requirement.
With t h e c o s t f o r t h e course extending to over a £1,000 the club was pleased to provide sponsorship towards the expenditure.
Head coach Sam Greetham said: “I am extremely pleased Tom has been accepted onto the coaching team at Loughborough University which is the No 1 centre for the GB swim team. S c a r b o r o u g h s wi mming club is very proud of Tom’s achievements and are delighted to support him.
“I would l i ke t o t hank Scarborough SC Committee for their very generous contribution towards my course.
“Without sponsorship it would be too expensive to attend, with travel and accommodation costs being extra.
“I would also like to thank head coach Sam Greetham f o r a l l hi s i nput i nto my coaching.
“Sam has a l ways been available to offer valuable advice and support.
“He has a n unriva l l e d wealth of knowledge within the sport.
“I am extremely grateful to him.”
