The buzz is back after away victory

As a club there were so many positives that we can take out of Saturday’s win at Trafford. One of the biggest for me was the contribution of the supporters.

The lads really appreciated the backing they got and it really helped push us to that all-important win.

Our players, and us as managers, have come in for a good bit of stick in recent weeks, and we all take what people say on board.

But when the fans get behind us like they did, it is absolutely fantastic, it underlines how much we need that support.

The lads were talking about it all the way home on the bus and what it meant to them.

After the game it was also nice to get that buzz back in among the players and for us as well.

You remember how good it feels to wake up on a Sunday morning having won, or when you go into work and you can say with pride that you picked up all three points.

Our confidence did take a knock and it initially started when we lost our keeper Ben Simpson.

From the Consett game in the FA Cup things began spiralling out of control.

The injuries came, the confidence dipped and the strikers stopped scoring the goals.

We all know that one win is not the answer, there is still a lot of hard work to be done.

But now we have that buzz again and the belief that we can do it.

The capture of keeper Joe Cracknell helped us massively on Saturday.

He kept a clean-sheet and made a string of what were just routine saves for a player of his quality.

The addition of Joe and Sam Wright from Bradford City just shows how important the loan market can be for us.

Obviously you want your own players that are going to be with you all the time, but at this stage it becomes hard to bring players in.

Some are settled, or some want that extra £10, which makes a massive difference to them and us.

Not every loan deal has worked, as we have seen with Tommy Cooney and a few others over the past few years, but others have definitely stepped up.

Caine Winfarrah was one that didn’t make a mark when he joined us from Grimsby last season, but he went away after his release and he has really gritted his teeth.

He took the odd elbow on rough pitches in the NCEL and since he has joined us he has been great.

We have said before about what it takes for younger players to progress in the game and Caine has done exactly what he needed to.

He has stepped up to the plate and made that leftback position his own.
