head-on collision.

The other couple, referred to by Ms Green as “Uncle Paul” and “his partner Sue”, were sitting in the back of the car when it was struck on the A64 near Scampston, between Malton and Scarborough, on Friday afternoon.

Ms Green posted on Facebook on Saturday: “Yesterday was the worst day of my life, yesterday I lost my mother Joy and my father Derek in a traffic accident outside of Rillington. They were coming back from Leeds from my Uncle Paul’s wedding to his partner Sue when their car hit a HGV coming in the opposite direction. Sue and Paul were in the back, all 4 of them died on the scene.”

Ms Green appealed for people to “respect our grief and our privacy” before adding: “In all honesty I feel like the world has just ended.”

Joy Green was a well-known artist in the Scarborough area and had exhibited across the county.

She lived in the Falsgrave area and got her fine art degree from Yorkshire Coast College’s Westwood campus.

Joy also had a passion for geology and belonged to the Rotunda group which celebrates the work of Scarborough geologist William Strata Smith.

She was also a founder member of and ran Scarborough Arts Forum and was secretary for Scarborough Art Society.

Derek was formerly Scarborough Borough Council’s conservation officer.

All three emergency services attended the crash site and the road was closed in both directions while collision investigators examined the scene before it reopened early on Saturday.

The four people who died at the scene – two men aged 58 and 63 and two women aged 57 and 60 – have not yet been formally identified by police.

The driver of the lorry, a 26-year-old man, was uninjured, a North Yorkshire Police spokesman said. Investigations are continuing.
