Cloughton and Flixton to contest Hunter Cup final

-

The Final of the Hunter Cup, which is for Division B teams in the AndyHire Evening League, takes place at North Marine Road on Monday, 6pm start.

This year’s final is between Flixton and Cloughton, two clubs with long histories in the Evening Cricket League.

This cup has been running since 1960, with Flixton winning it in 1988, and again by their B team in both 1993 and 1997.

Cloughton won the trophy in 1977 and 2001. Both teams are favourites for promotion to Division A at the end of the season.

Flixton will probably start as favourites being unbeaten so far in the Evening League and having beaten Cloughton in both their league encounters this season.

All-rounders Chris Mann, Stuart Stocks and Harry Walmsley will be their key men, as well as batsmen Anthony Stones and Michael Dennis and bowler Connor Stephenson.

Flixton reached the final by beating Wykeham B and Scarborough.

Cloughton have a very useful team with captain and batsman Chris Malthouse along with fellow batsmen Ben Luntley, Chris Woodhouse, Nick Gibson, James Long and Jack Hakings, and will look to bowlers Hakings and Paul Goodenough to take wickets.

Malthouse’s side reached the final after beating Seamer B in and Scalby B.

Entrance to the game is free, however a raffle will be held with proceeds to be shared between local charities and league funds.

The league are again indebted to Scarborough Cricket Club for allowing them to use their ground.

The trophy will be presented by league chairman John Flinton to the winners, while a brand new runners-up trophy in memory of the late Bill Green, a well-known cricket volunteer in the area and a vice-president of the league, will be presented by Green’s granddaughter Becky Green.

It is hoped a good crowd turns up to watch what could be a close final and the last of the AndyHire Evening League cup competitions for the 2016 season.
