overseas. This year, organisers are hoping villagers will be inspired by the influences of the Queen’s 90th birthday, Tour de Yorkshire and Brexit. The scarecrows can be viewed each day from 9am until 9pm apart from the last day on Sunday August 7 when it will close at 5pm.

Cllr Godfrey Allanson, one of the organisers, said: “We are hoping for a bumper attendance this year to help boost our funds in support of a Heritage Lottery Fund bid for a new village hall.”

There will also be displays in the village’s parish church based on a “Forever Friends” theme. The Muston in Bloom group is organising a Duck Derby this Saturday and the winner of each heat will win £50.

For more festival information go to www.mustonscarecrowfestival.com or The Official Muston Scarecrow Festival Facebook page.

Also set to draw in the crowds this Saturday and Sunday is the Filey RNLI Lifeboat Weekend, centred around the lifeboat station.

The annual raft race will take place on the Saturday afternoon from about 1.30pm and teams are encouraged to enter. There will also be a static display by the White Rose Goldwings Motorcycle group who will also run a tombola at the boathouse on Coble Landing.

The main event on Sunday will be the launching of both lifeboats just after 1pm and a display by the new Coastguard helicopter subject to any callouts.

Dearne Big Band will perform while Magic Mike will be hosting a series of shows on Coble Landing. The Ramshackle Shanty Men will perform their songs and emergency services will provide static displays.

Every penny raised will go towards Filey lifeboat. A Safety Awareness Fun Day will be held on Sunday August 7 at Filey Country Park between 11am and 4pm.

Thousands of people attended last year and it is hoped that the event will be a success again this year.

The event is a fun day out for all the family, but with safety very much in mind. In attendance will be the fire service who carry out two demonstrations during the day, with displays by the police, ambulance service and road safety teams.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopter will also pay a visit, with ample opportunity for everyone to talk to the crew and have a look around.

Donations are collected for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity during the event and last year £800 was raised.

There are lots of other attractions including children’s entertainment, donkey rides and bouncy castles, with plenty of refreshments available.

The event is free but parking charges apply.
