The Scarboroug­h festival takes place from Friday September 23 to Sunday September 25. The line-up is: Artephis Five outstandin­g musicians (trumpet flugel horn, guitar, piano, bass, drums) Adam Glasser’s South Africa and Beyond Award-winning jazz harmonica and keyboard player Adam Glasser’s band with rising star guitarist Rob Luft Alan Broadbent/Georgia Mancio ‘Songbook’ Barnes/O’Higgins Sax Section Alan Barnes and Dave O’Higgins create a unique repertoire for five-saxes and rhythm section. Benn Clatworthy Quartet Los Angeles based Benn Clatworthy, tenor saxophonis­t, will be backed by leading UK jazz musicians. Brandon Allen Sextet Charlie Parker on Dial Led by pianist/arranger Alex Webb this show has narration, a six-piece band (includes saxophonis­t Nathaniel Facey and trumpeter Freddy Gavita), linked big screen film shots from the forties, and some fabulous singing from Vimala Rowe (star of Café Society last year). Gareth Williams & Trish Clowes One of the country’s leading modern jazz pianists with saxophonis­t Trish Clowes Liane Carroll Liane is undoubtedl­y one of the UK’s great singers and entertaine­rs – and a fine jazz pianist. Malija An all-star trio – Mark Lockheart (sax), Jasper Holby (bass) and Liam Noble (piano). Nicola Farnon Trio Pan Jumby Dudley Nesbitt, guru of the steel pan, leads a five-piece band blending modern calypso, Caribbean rhythms, Rumba and Cha Cha with Richard Ormrod on reeds and flute. SK2 Jazz Orchestra Led by drummer Dave Tyas this eighteen-piece performs music originally played by the Stan Kenton Band. The Abstract Truth Big Band Sixteen-piece band playing the music of Oliver Nelson. Vula Viel Based around the Gyil (the Dagaare xylophone made of sacred lliga wood) the group’s intensely rhythmic music is an engaging mix of African, electronic­a and minimalist influences.
