Brid clash
hile it’s never easy to officiate a game like Bridlington v Scarborough, we were left incredibly frustrated and bemused by the referee on Saturday.
Yes, Brid played some good rugby at times, but they were allowed to do so we weren’t.
One of their tries came after a blatant forward pass, which everyone at the game seemed to see apart from the referee, then our lads were adamant their player had a foot in touch before going over.
They then scored two late tries when we had two guys in the bin that made the scoreline a lot wider than it should’ve been.
Perhaps the pressure of refereeing a big, heated, derby clash at a place like Bridlington got to the ref, but he’s supposed to be a level six ref and should be able to hand it.
It’s incredibly frustrating, because in the main it was a good-natured game and we are left here talking about the decisions of the match officials when we should be talking about the game. It’s madness.
I felt going in 11-8 down at half-time was a good effort as they played with the wind at their backs, we were reasonably pleased.
The players worked hard, but they weren’t allowed to play.
We weren’t at our best by any means, but they did the best they could in the frustrating circumstances.
The late tries flattered them and I feel the ref spoilt the game, but we really have to move on now as we have another tough game at home to West Leeds on Saturday.
They appear to be a decent side and we’ll have to work hard this week in training and again on Saturday if we want to bounce back with a win.
Mikey Readman should be back from his two-week ban, which is a boost for us and a good opportunity for him to come back fresh and ready to make an impact.
