Whist drive

A military whist drive held in Cayton Village Hall on Wednesday October 5 raised £35 for Cayton Village Hall funds. The MC was Bob Cowton and six tables were in play.

Trevor organised the raffle and Mrs M Scott the refreshmen­ts.

Whist winners were: 1 (cut table) T Davies, B Cowton; 2 Mr and Mrs P West, R Warman, J Calam; 3 Mrs P Johnson, Mrs S Wardle, Mrs V Poole, L Woodhead.

Raffle winners: L Woodhead, Mrs P Johnson, R Souter, R Warman, Mrs Walton, T Davies, Mrs E Brownridge, Mrs P West, P Richardson, Mrs S Wardle, B Cowton, Mrs V Poole.

The MC gave the vote of thanks to the new players, it was good to see fresh faces, to the many who help with the refreshmen­ts, and the clearing up afterwards, very much appreciate­d.

There will be a partner whist drive at Allerston Village Hall on Saturday November 12, 7.30pm start. the outstandin­g costumes for Halloween. They certainly made you think you might like to go and see them in person, only a short trip at the end of this month.

The competitio­n winners of a holiday photograph were Nancy Pullan, Jean Carter and Ann Ward. Raffle prize winners were Wendy Banner, Mary Judd, Sue Mann and Judith Holden.

The mid-month coffee morning will be this morning, Thursday, at Irton Garden Centre at 10.30am. The federation lunch will be held on Thursday October 20 at Hackness Grange.

The next WI meeting will be held on Tuesday November 1 at 7.15pm. If you have a sweet tooth you may be interested in Croft’s Artisan Chocolates. for their help.

Bingo was on Wednesday when Ted called the numbers, Vera and Lilian sold the books and raffle tickets. Tea and biscuits were served in the interval by Lill, Ted and Vera, Lilian and Ted drew the raffle with a prize for each member.

Thursday’s coffee and breakfast morning was enjoyed by the residents, Phyll and Lilian cooked and served scrambled eggs, bacon, fried bread then toast, marmalade, jams and coffee. Everyone had a good conversati­on while eating. All provided by Darrell (the warden) and the money going into the club funds. mission is £5 and the doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Cafe Refresh at 10.15am, the theme being ‘Time’.
