Snainton WI held its harvest meeting on Tuesday October 4. Vice president Marilyn Bellinger welcomed guests from Wykeham and Hutton Buscel WI, and a harvest hymn was sung.

The harvest supper was then served, Yorkshire puddings, sausages and mixed vegetables followed by fruit crumble and custard. This was all prepared and served by committee members.

After the meal, a witty harvest poem was read by its talented author Ann Pilgrim Green.

A raffle for a Christmas cake, to be made and decorated by Margot Newton, was won by Ann Evans. The competitio­n for an apple pie was won by Bridget Hardy.

The auction then ensued, Angela Howgate in her usual role as auctioneer, sold the vast array of fantastic baking and produce donated by members. This raised £305.

The raffle raised £54 making a total of £359 to be split between Scarboroug­h Talking Newspapers and Breast Cancer Research in memory of Myrtle Braithwait­e. tion will soon be here again. The group is raising money for three fantastic charities by auctioning a variety of lots kindly been donated by local business. This is a well-supported event and it is hoped that a similar amount can be raised to last year, which was around £2,500. All three of these charities are every important to individual members in one way or another, and they all do an amazing job at supporting, caring and even saving lives.

Ryedale Special Families provides support and care for children and young adults with disabiliti­es. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance needs £9,900 a day to keep its helicopter in the air and Marie Curie Cancer Care needs £10,000 an hour every day to continue its care for cancer patients. Simple reasons why they need supporting.

The sum of £173.51 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support at the Buckrose Community Café coffee morning. The competitio­n to guess the number of dots on a cake was won by Colin Wicks whose guess of 495 was the closest. general knowledge quiz in the Fleece Inn. The winners with 58 points were Friends, second were Honeymoone­rs (56) and third Weaverthor­pe Four (55). After a tie break with The Girls, Weaverthor­pe Four won the £20 jackpot.

Mike’s next quiz in the Fleece will be on Friday October 21.

Jennie’s weekly Sunday night quiz was won by Honeymoone­rs.
