The Ladies Club met with speaker Ros Dyson who spoke on the shoebox appeal, Christmas Child, and how the value of the boxes is helping under privileged children in third world countries. She explained how members can help by filling shoeboxes for boys or girls and the certain items, which can be included.

Raffle winners were Moira Audsley, Gill Coupland, Ros Dyson, Wendy Coles, Lesley Metcalfe and Barbara Smith and hostesses were Pauline Osborne and Shirley Holdsworth.

The next meeting will be on November 2 at 7.30pm with a talk on Switzerlan­d when new members will be made most welcome.

At Scarboroug­h Borough Council’s Muck and Magic Awards Osgodby won the award for the memorial garden and the In Bloom group received an award for the outstandin­g gardens and tubs in the village.

The bingo evening took place on Monday with Moira Audsley and Janet McNamara as cashiers/callers, checker Margaret Rogers, helpers Anita Wilkinson and Irene Barnett. Raffle was won by Joan Davis and Kate Ingham, flyer tickets were sold by Joan Davis and won by Irene Barnett and Mary Morris.

Other events at the centre include Pilates, Keep Fit, Craft Group, Aircraft Club, Ukulele and Guitar Group.

The centre can be booked for activities, parties and events at £6 per hour. Please contact booking secretary, Bryan Bolton, on 01723 581548. The centre is well equipped with excellent kitchen facilities, music centre and disabled toilet. facilities will be available for children under four years.

On Wednesday there will be a service of Holy Communion at 10am. This will be followed by the discussion group at 11am in the community hall.

The discussion will be repeated on Thursday at Cloughton Vicarage at 7.30pm. Please contact Don McIver on 01723 871210 if you wish to attend the Thursday session.

Children aged six to 10 are invited to join Scarboroug­h Museum for a Magical Mystical Bird Event at Scalby Library on Saturday October 22 from 10.30am-11.30am. The library will also be hosting Mrs B’s Halloween Crafts on Monday October 24 from 10.30am to noon, £2 per child aged four to 10. Booking for both events is essential. The Scarboroug­h Youth Hostel building dates from the 17th century when it was originally a private house and provides 46 beds. Christmas and New Year are particular­ly busy times when extended families come and take over the place for a few days.

Val Collier was hostess and refreshmen­ts were served by Jeannette Wright, Dorothy Jowsey and Sue Emms.

Next week’s meeting will be ‘Healthy Eating and Fitness’ by Candice Faqir. winner of the 2016 Kathleen Ferrier Award and her accompanis­t Dylan Perez. The Rev Mike Leigh will also perform, accompanie­d by Chris Wright. Tickets are £15 and include prosecco and canapes. Ring 01723 364858 for details.
