At the latest Scalby Wives meeting 48 ladies attended a talk by Candice Faqir on healthy eating and fitness.

Candice runs Kick Start Fat Loss (KSFL), a programme designed by Rachel Holmes to educate about correct nutrition in relation to weight loss and the promotion of health and well-being. The programme consists of 80 per cent nutrition and 20 per cent exercise which can be as little as 10 minutes a day and is fully supported throughout. It is described as not a diet plan but a lifestyle change.

Scalby Wives were treated to an interestin­g tasting session of the sweet and savoury foods recommende­d by Candice.

Candice will be presenting a free launch of the programme at St James Community Arts Centre on Seamer Road on Thursday November 3.

Doreen Brooke was the hostess and refreshmen­ts were served by Margaret Lisney, Sue Attwood and Tricia Stephenson.

There will be no meetings for two weeks, the next one being Monday November 7 when Caroline Pindar will speak about ‘A Voyage to Antarctica for Scientific Study’. the beginning of the service.

This Sunday there will be services of Holy Communion at 8am and 10am. The 10am service will include activities for children and young people, and crèche facilities will be available for children under four years.

At 6.30pm there will be a service of healing and wholeness, based on the healing service of the Iona Community, which will include the laying on of hands. All are welcome.

On Wednesday there will be a service of Holy Communion at 10am. This will be followed by the discussion group at 11am in the community hall. The theme will be the Book of Judges, and their place in the developmen­t of God’s will for Israel.

The discussion will be repeated on Thursday at Cloughton Vicarage at 7.30pm. There will be a raffle in the interval and the bar will be open throughout. Tickets are £10, to include supper.
