A primary school student has come top of the class in an inter-school poster competition to promote the McCain bonfire and fireworks display. The competition is held annually by event organisers, Cayton and Eastfield Parish Councils, and this year was judged by the main sponsor of the firework display, McCain Foods and Osgodby Parish Council.

Amelia Smith, who is in year five at Overdale School, came top of over 30 finalists from Overdale, Braeburn, Cayton and St George’s schools, with her poster design.

Cayton parish councillor, Rhona Liley, said: “The poster competition is a great way to get local schools involved in the event and promote it at the same time.”

The McCain bonfire and fireworks take place on Friday November 4 at the McCain Sports Field. The bonfire will be lit at 6pm with the fireworks at 6.45pm. Entry is free and on- site parking is £2. The Ayton Jubilee Committee are hosting their display in Yedmandale Quarry on November 5. The bonfire will be lit at 6pm and fireworks begin at 6.30pm.

The Burniston and Cloughton event takes place at Burniston Village Hall on November 5 costing £3 for adults, £1 for children and under 5s go free. Gates open at 6pm, bonfire lit at 6.30pm and fireworks commencing from 7pm.
