Woman from Midlands in stabbing trial

-

An 18-year-old woman is to face trial by jury following an alleged stabbing in Scarborough in which two women were seriously injured.

Ciara Murphy, from the West Midlands, is accused of stabbing the women at Queen’s Parade in August.

The case against her coaccused, 40-year-old Dawn Leeming, of Queens Terrace, Scarborough, was dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service on Monday.

The CPS told York Crown Court it would be offering no evidence against Ms Leeming following an application by her barrister to dismiss the charges against her.

Murphy, of Watling Street, Walsall, is charged with two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. She denied the charges at a previous hearing in September.

She was remanded in custody following her arrest but was not required to attend court this week when her case was adjourned for a trial at Leeds Crown Court on February 13 next year.

The alleged stabbing is said to have happened near North Marine Road at about 9.30pm on August 14. A large area was cordoned off following the incident with police guarding the scene.

The injured Scarborough women, aged 34 and 35, were taken to hospital with what were described as serious injuries.

The 34-year-old was initially in a critical condition, but both were later discharged from hospital.
