The Trustees of Newby and Scalby Library were thrilled to be presented with a cheque for a further £170 from Mrs Doreen Brooke, chairman of Scalby Wives, towards the cost of running library services from April 1, 2017.

Free health checks at the library are starting up again on Mondays between 10am-5pm. Anyone aged 40 to 74 is invited for a confidential 30 minute health check which measures Body Mass Index, blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels, and lifestyle factors. Following the check-up a health professional will provide tailored healthy lifestyle advice.

Those attending can find out if they are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease, kidney disease or diabetes and take advantage of the free lifestyle services available across the borough. This is open to anyone who has not already been diagnosed with heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease or had a stroke, is not being prescribed statins and has not had an NHS Health Check in the last five years.
