Moira Audsley welcomed 21 ladies to the monthly meeting at the community centre, and spoke about forthcomin­g events.

Moira introduced Tom Fox, he gave a wonderful account of how he became to be in the police force, starting at Darlington, Kirkbymoor­side, Harrogate and finally Scarboroug­h.

He told us about his first arrest and of how he helped out in many more ways in his line of duty. He stressed how important it is to talk about wills and donor cards to family and friends.

Mr Fox declined the fee and gave it back to the Ladies Club charity for this year, Prostate Cancer UK.

Raffle winners were Vi Carley, Margaret Burdock, Margaret Hodgson, Joyce Dufton, Shirley Holdsworth, Moira Draper and Wendy Coles.

Hostesses were Moira Draper and Margaret Taylor.

The Ladies Club meets again on March 1 when the speaker will be Lindy Rowley who will give a talk on maritime.

The Great Macmillan Quiz will be held in the community centre on Friday February 24, 2pm–4pm. The questions are already set by Macmillan and a number of organisati­ons will be doing the same quiz.

Coffee, tea and biscuits will be served and tickets are on sale £2 per person, also a raffle will be held on the same day.

A quote for repairing three of the benches in the parish has been accepted.

The next meeting is on Friday March 3 at 7pm in the village hall.
