Insulting thug is jailed for assault at wedding party

-

A wedding-party fracas ended with an uninvited man wounding a guest with a glass bottle, a court heard.

Solomon Robinson, 23, lashed out with the glass weapon as tempers flared outside East Ayton Lodge.

Robinson struck the 36-year-old man on the head and arm, causing deep cuts which oozed blood, York Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor Martin Robertshaw said violence erupted after three women were involved in a fiery altercation during which one of the females lost her false nails.

The incident occurred in the early hours of August 21 last year at the country hotel.

During the reception, Robinson, who was not an invited guest, called the victim’s fiancée an offensive name after he was told he was not welcome at the wedding party.

He then hit the man with a bottle, which broke but Robinson continued to strike him.

Robinson, of Westbourne Grove, Scarborough, refused to answer police questions following his arrest – and denied the attack.

But he later admitted unlawful wounding on the basis that he acted in self-defence.

His barrister Andrew Semple said Robinson had “difficulties controlling his temper” following a difficult upbringing. Jailing Robinson for 12 months, Andrew Stubbs QC said he had caused “savagelooking” cuts to the victim.
