A father-of-two who terrorised a family with a knife and stabbed the blade into their car bonnet has been spared jail.

Mohammed Nori, 39, drove to a man’s home in Filey in the early hours of the morning and put the family members through a terrifying ordeal after getting out of a Citroen car and punching their living-room window while shouting dire threats, York Crown Court heard.

One of the male householders went outside to confront Nori, who pulled a knife from his pocket, waved it around and hissed: “I’m going to kill you.”

The ensuing slanging match in the street continued in the house itself, where Nori was holding a knife by his side, added the barrister.

Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its Bags of Help funding initiative, which sees grants of up to £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to thousands of local community projects every year.

Voting ran in stores throughout January with customers choosing which local project they would like to get the top award using a token given to them at the check-out.

Work will now begin on bringing their Fitness Legacy Zone Project to life, providing fitness and exercise equipment to people who would otherwise need to travel out of town for the equipment.

Lindsey Crompton, Tesco’s Head of Community, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the response from our customers. The great thing about Bags of Help is that local people are invited to decide how the money will be spent in their community. We can’t wait to see the projects come to life.”
