Lowe on a high after landing impressive treble

Warburton claims two titles at Scarboroug­h Closed Tournament

Martin Lowe picked up a treble at the Scarboroug­h Table Tennis Closed Tournament. Lowe won the Division One title after a victory against Simon James in the final, he also beat James in the Hardbat competitio­n.

He then teamed up with Josh Pickin to collect the Select Doubles, as they beat Glen Hodgson and Jack Louth.

Moke Warburton bagged the Closed Handicap with a victory over Julian James, she also saw off Matthew Whilde to win the Division Two and Three title.

Peter Kirk came out on top in the Division One Vintage against Guy Whiting, while Jack Louth won the Division Two and Three Handicap, seeing off Karl Cousins.

Sam Lowe won the Division Two and Three Hardbat, beating John Warburton.

In the Scarboroug­h Flooring Division One, the top two Corinthian­s and James Builders battled out a headline fixture that ended with points shared at 5-5.

Simon James stood tall for the Builders with a hardearned treble. His match with Glen Hodgson went to the wire, with Hodgson not being able to take advantage of a match point.

Maz Chajecki and Mike Fenby added singles.

A brace from Corinthian­s’ Dale Symons included the scalp of Chajecki.

Hodgson and Mark Marshall scored singles and won the crucial doubles together.

Pindar stand-in Matty Whilde proved his worth with a vital rubber in the 5-5 draw against Rolo.

Teammate Macauley Youngson continued his fine form with a brace plus a brilliant doubles success, partnering Nigel Clapham.

They defeated Martin and Matty Lowe in a deciding set, while Clapham took a single.

Rolo’s reply came from a Martin Lowe treble and singles for Matty and Sam Lowe.

A fighting display from Ajay Tandan was not enough to save bottom-placed Hobnobs from a 7-3 loss against Nomads.

Tandan won a brace to go along with a Noel Seery single.

Nomads’ Gary Connolly hit another impressive treble and Dave Oxley was on his way to staying unbeaten until the shock defeat to Tandan.

John Loftus added a single and paired up with Connolly for a doubles win.

Pete Kirk and Ed Wardman shocked Hackness with unbeaten displays that included a five-set doubles triumph over Gerald Smith and Ashley Hodgson in an 8-2 win for Corinthian­s B.

Pete Lee completed the scoreline for the victors.

In reply Smith and Moke Warburton scored singles.

Lowly Scarboroug­h Flooring Division Two side Hobnobs got the better of high flying Whitby Endeavour by a 6-4 scoreline.

Pete Simms was the inspiratio­n with a fighting treble.

Chris Found gave solid support with a brace and Allan Thurling a vital single.

Whitby’s reply were singles each for Graham Cripps, Jon Parkinson and Barry Davies with the latter two winning a tense five-set doubles.

A consolatio­n win from Luke Howland was all that Scalby had to show for their efforts in a 9-1 loss against Picadore B.

Steve Atkinson and Tony Ingham hit trebles for the victors and Nigel Chandley a brace with the doubles also going Picadore’s way.

ScalbyOldB­oys beat Picadore 7-3.

Matty Whilde defeated Sally Hunter in the battle of the number ones and he went on to win his remaining rubbers in straight sets plus a doubles with Alistair Hutchinson.

The latter bagged a brace and there was a terrific win from Karl Cousins, who nearly staged a major upset by narrowly losing to Hunter 16-14 in the decider.

Picadore’s reply came from a Hunter brace and a single from Richard Lloyd.

Glazetech Division Three promotion chasers Bingo McVitie beat Desperatum 10-0.

Trebles for Rod Ives, Frazer Ives and Jack Louth plus a doubles success by the pairing of Rod Ives and Louth.

Desperatum’s best player was Steve Davis, who took Frazer Ives to a fifth set.

A man of the match display from Nick Campbell inspired Whitby Resolution to an 8-2 win over Eastfield Fusion.

Ken Benford and Stuart Hurworth both lost to Eastfield’s Steve Miller and had to settle for a brace each.

Campbell was also successful in the doubles partnering Hurworth.

Matthew Rutt maintained his unbeaten record with maximum in Delphstone’s draw with Liberators.

Josh Pickin gave a good account of himself with a brace.

Liberators gave thanks to a brace from Brian Goodliffe and singles for Kath and Naomi Edwards plus a doubles success by Goodliffe and Kath Edwards.
