Third Year Fine Art BA Hons students from Scarborough School of Arts, Westwood, will be hosting a unique event on Saturday 25 March.

The event, starting at 7.30pm, will raise funds for their final degree show which previews on Friday 2 June.

The event will feature 35 plus musicians from the Scarborough Concert Band performing a programme of music which celebrates the creative achievements of selected artists and composers throughout history in a variety of genres.

There will also be a guest appearance by sixth form pupil Jasmine Howard, daughter of student Angela Howard, who will be performing vocal and instrumental numbers.

The concert is to be held in the historic Westwood Theatre – formerly The Theatre in the Round.

The music will be interspersed with interesting information delivered in a fun way exploring the connections between art and music compered by Helen Birmingham – the art schools’ resident life model, artist, writer and curator.

Julie Springall, who is a third year fine art student, said “The concept for the event came to me last year when thinking about how we could raise funds for our degree show.

“I’ve been a clarinetist with the concert band for over 30 years and thought it would be a fantastic way to bring the two together. I approached our musical director Malcolm Appleby with the idea who was keen to offer his support.”

Kane Cunningham, the Fine Arts BA Course Leader at the school, said: “This is the very last fine art degree show here at Westwood before the move up to the new site at Filey Road and wewanttogooutwithaflourish. We need to raise as much money as we can to make this the biggest and best degree show ever!”

Entry to the concert is £3 on the door (under 12s go free).

For anyone wanting to offer support donations can be made on the students’ Go Fund Me page at https://www.gofundme. com/fineart-degreeshow.
