Scarborough’s Ben Tolliday raced away to a solid start to the Thundersport season with four point-scoring finishes at Brands Hatch. The rising star qualified-fourth on the grid on the opening day of the supertwins class, and this set the scene for him to secure seventh place in the first race.

Tolliday said: “In dry conditions I finished seventh after a poor start and I got held up behind a few people.

“I followed this up with another seventh-place finish in the second race of the day.”

On day two Tolliday started seventh after the megalaps method, which determines your start position for the day based upon your quickest lap time from the opening day’s races.

The 20-year-old said: “I finished fifth in the first race on Sunday.

“This one started as a wet race but the track was drying throughout.”

He followed this up with a sixth-placed finish in very similar conditions.

Tolliday added: “I am pleased to come away from the first round at Brands Hatch with Thundersport GB, with four solid point scoring finishes.

“Brands Hatch wasn’t a strong circuit for me last year either so I knew it’d be a tough round.

“The next round is one of my more favoured circuits, Donington Park, so I am looking forward to that on the weekend of March 24 and 25. “I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has come on board to sponsor me this season, Brown’s Caravan Park, Mayhem Motorcycle Training, The Windmill Bed & Breakfast, Don French Signs, Gardners Lawn & Garden Equipment, GS Graphic Design, iD Developments, Hammerton Motors, Elite Cricket, Grip Cycles, GR Motorsport, F& G Commercials Huddersfield, Putoline Motorcycle Oils, EBC Brakes and Scorpion Exhausts.”
