Big event for Training Ship crew
TrainingShip Scarborough hosted supporters for the formal presentation of the Thomas Grey Memorial Trophy.
Training Ship (TS) Scarborough hosted family, friends and supporters for the formal presentation of the Sea Cadet Corps National Award The Thomas Grey Memorial Trophy by the Chairman of the Marine Society Sea Cadet’s Captain Nigel Palmer OBE. The Thomas Gray Memorial Trophy is recognised as the award for the second placed unit within the 409 active units that make up the Sea Cadet Corps.
The evening started with ceremonial colours followed by an inspection and the formal presentation of the Trophy by Capt Palmer OBE.
The ship’s company entertained their guests with a few short displays including the band and a selection of personnel accounts from the individual cadet highlights
The cadets and staff have thrown themselves into the full experience head first.
The Commanding Officer Sub Lieutenant Natalie Davies RNR said: “TS Scarborough are honoured & extremely proud to be named the recipients of the Thomas Gray Memorial Shield.
“This is truly a fabulous accolade the unit. This rounds off what has been the most successful year in the history of the town’s sea cadet unit and a year to remember, with memories that will last a lifetime for each member of the ship’s company.
“The cadets and staff have done me, the town, their parents, our supporters and the Sea Cadet Corps proud.
“I have never been so overwhelmed with pride when marching in front of the Queen and the cheering crowds in London but the amazing recognition of the Thomas Gray Memorial Trophy is a fabulous way to end the year, but the real reward is seeing young adults achieve unbelievable things both personally and together as a team whilst having fun.
“This is the culmination of a lot of hard work from everyone involved. We’ve fitted so many things in over the last 12 months and those who have followed and supported us I thank you.
“I’m immensely privileged to be the Commanding Officer of such a fantastic team.”
